![]() ![]() Rowling? It’s a great attempt by Black and Clare, and I actually quite enjoyed reading it. I’d like to say that it’s a bit of an exaggeration to call this book a rip-off, because let’s be honest: who is going to write a book about a wizarding school and not be compared to J.K. Thankfully, when I read this I hadn’t seen those reviews so I remained blissfully ignorant for most of my time reading it. When researching this book I found that a lot of parallels had been drown by other people between this book and the Harry Potter series, calling it a rip-off even. The Iron Trial is a book about a boy named Callum, who enters a magical school. Be at ease, though, I won’t be spoiling anything quite yet. ![]() ĭisclaimer: while I won’t be spoiling anything major in this review, I will probably review other books in this series, which will most likely contain spoilers from previous books. It’s a place that’s both sensational and sinister, with dark ties to his past and a twisty path to his future. The Iron Trial is just the beginning, for the biggest test is still to come. ![]() If he succeeds at the Iron Trial and is admitted into the Magisterium, he is sure it can only mean bad things for him. So he tries his best to do his worst – and fails at failing. Now the Magisterium awaits him. He wants to fail. All his life, Call has been warned by his father to stay away from magic. Most kids would do anything to pass the Iron Trial. Not Callum Hunt. Series: Book one in the Magisterium series The Iron Trial by Holly Black & Cassandra Clare ![]()
